A couple weeks ago, I got to tour the beautiful Hampton Inn & Suites – Austin at The University/Capitol. This hotel completely over exceeded my expectations of what I envisioned it looking like. From the amazing rooftop pool view of The Capitol and the city, to the wraparound balconies on several of the suites, to the graffiti covered parking garage.
The Hampton Inn & Suites – Austin at The University/Capitol opened in October of 2012 and it doesn’t look a day older. It’s fresh. It’s clean. And it’s Austin-themed!
When you pull into the hotel’s parking garage, you see a hint of what’s to come inside the hotel. The first wall inside the garage welcomes guests with a hipster, graffiti spray painted mural from local artist, Tony Barrios.
Once inside the atrium, you’ll see painted guitars filled with faces of Austin’s favorite artists such as Willie Nelson. Follow the brightly colored walls and carpet into the breakfast and lounge area to a huge stainless steel, revolving guitar from local artist, Jim LaPaso. Once up the elevator, you’ll see how each floor has a piece of unique art related to Austin. The hotel’s 11’ windows with 12’ ceilings in every room provide fantastic views of The Capitol and our beautiful city. It is also the only hotel in Austin with the Austin City Limits Live channel streaming in every room.
If that isn’t “Keeping Austin Weird” and local, the Hampton Inn & Suites – Austin at The University/Capitol is the even locally owned and operated. You may just be having your complimentary hot breakfast next to the owner himself and not even know it!
This hotel is great for groups who want to be near popular downtown destinations. It’s also perfect for visitors of The University of Texas at Austin as it is within walking distance to the campus and stadiums. They have one meeting room, so small groups looking for a more exclusive setting will love this hotel. Meeting guests can relax at the rooftop pool and lounge area, clean their clothes at the on-site laundry room, enjoy the free high speed internet access in their room, use the business center or even work out in the fitness room!
