Every year our giving partner The New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund (Answer the Call) hosts their Annual Game and Family Day — which is their oldest tradition. They invite 66 families of fallen New York first responders to be their guests at a New York Mets game. A couple of the kids even get to throw out the first pitch!
It’s a great opportunity for the families to get together, meet new friends (as well as see old ones) and have a good ‘ole time cheering on the Mets. It also reminds them that the sacrifice made by their loved ones has not been forgotten.
Through the Answer the Call RoomFunding project, hotel room nights cover the cost of children’s tickets for the event. And this year, we were excited to able send one of our Crew members, Sarah Maloney, to attend the event. They even recognized us with their Spirit Award! Here is what Sarah had to say about the experience…
“It was such an honor and great experience to be able to attend the Annual Game and Family Day this year. It’s an even better feeling to actually get to meet the families first hand. After enduring such a tragedy, it’s amazing to see how supportive the families are to one another and the bonds they create.”
