Eat, Drink, and be Merry: Austin Style.
Austin Food and Wine Festival is back and better than ever, after last year’s weather cancellation. This weekend-long event brings together all the finer drink and food lovers to celebrate this delicious art form.
To kick off the festival, you’re in for a one-of-a-kind family-style dining experience at Feast Under the Stars. With wine provided by Jackson Family Wines and 5 award-winning chefs preparing a five course meal, this mouth-watering opening act will have you coming back for more (besides the fact you bought tickets).
On Friday, taste your way around the world through Texas chefs interpretation of global cuisine at Lone Star Nights. As you’re savoring those exotic dishes, be sure to find a drink provided by Austerity Wines, Hendrick’s Gin, and Tequila512 to sip on.
Now, to Saturday and Sunday…
Although there are many attractions to keep you busy over the weekend, there’s one key piece of advice we can offer: Come Hungry. You have Fire Pit, Chef Showcase, hands-on grilling, and last, but not least… Rock Your Taco. What do those things entail?
So. Much. Food.
It’s like Thanksgiving all over again (Just don’t forget to pack the stretchy pants…). Check out the full schedule to plan your indulgence here.
Coming from out of town, or simply need a nearby place to recoup from your food and wine coma? Check out Austin Food and Wine’s hotel options, offering the best available rates this coming weekend. Considering all the different events in town, inventory is becoming limited – we recommend booking sooner than later!
So whether you’re coming in early, staying a day later, or somehow found extra time on your hands during the festival, Austin has some of the best places to kill time. Here are just a few recommendations to check out:
Take on “Dirty Sixth”
Keep the party going all night at the infamous sixth street. You’ve got a wide selection of bars to choose from… They may not serve the finest beverages like the festival, but it gets the job done for a night of entertainment, #ATX style. Austin is known for many things, and this is one of them to experience at least once in your life.
Throw a little history in the mix and tour the State Capitol.
Texas has a very interesting history that most people forget after turning in their high school textbooks. Take them up on a free tour to refresh your knowledge of this state, besides the fact that we have deep fried oreos and waffles served in the shape of Texas.
Not to mention, if you chose to stay at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin, the Capitol is located within walking distance to your hotel. If you needed another reason to look over one of the Austin Food & Wine featured hotels.
Take a stroll down to Zilker Park
Looking for some simple adventures before the festival starts? Located near festival grounds, explore Zilker Park and appreciate the incredible views and activities Austin has to offer. Rent a kayak, jump into a game of ultimate frisbee, or stroll around Lady Bird lake on one of the many bikes-for-rent from AustinB Cycle. Just a few of the many simple activities to take advantage of in downtown Austin.
We know what you guys are thinking…
Texas weather is so unreliable what kind of conditions should I expect at this festival?
At the moment, we’re seeing chances of rain this weekend, but check the daily forecast as Austin is known for a quick shift in day-to-day (and even hour-to-hour) weather patterns. A few pockets of showers won’t be detrimental, but either way you may want to consider packing your favorite white tank top.
